I hadn’t had a banana spit since about 1984! And I believe it was with my friend Nuria and my grandfather. This mountain of pure fat and sugar that in no way can be healthy! We used to have them pretty often until we graduated to bars and these banana splits were substituted for booze and some other type of chocolate which is actually smoked!
Yesterday I celebrated mother’s day with a dear friend. We went for sushi and then decided to go to this old fashioned ice-cream parlor in Alameda, CA, Tucker’s super creamed ice-cream, were they make their own ice cream and their motto is: Life is uncertain, eat dessert first! I’m all for it, but I have to admit I am more careful now about what I put into my stomach. So I indulge less. But: I always have room for dessert, and that has never changed!
Revisiting the sugar rush
Tuker’s is crowded all year round, people queuing even in the coldest months of winter. While in line, we went from a simple cone to the full monty: Banana split! We hadn’t done it in ages! So there we were, waiting for our treat and when we got it we were perplexed at the enormously built decadent treat! I had forgotten how immense it was! But there we were, all giggly as kids who feel a bit guilty while doing something somewhat naughty. We had so much fun sharing this! We reminisced about our pasts which we linked to this dessert, and for sure we felt that sugar rush again. We got home almost in tears from all the laughter at having indulged in such a decadent sweet at our age! This was so much fun!
This indulgence got me thinking… Once in a while, let yourself go and be naughty, eat that which you would now never dream of eating because of health reasons. Unless, of course, you have a health condition that prevents this!
Enjoy the sugar rush once in a while!
