Summer! Yet “yay!” can turn into “boo” when the heat, dry conditions, humidity, and sweat, make your makeup melt and become pasty and oily. Not sexy! If you can forego makeup altogether, and many can, great! But for those of us who are determined to wear makeup no matter what, we need to know what products to use to avoid the wax-museum look. Here are my picks:
Astringents: To keep your skin from becoming oily you can use astringents and toners. While some people are against them because they say they dry out your skin, in the summer, it’s just what you might just need. Go for a light toner which is alcohol-free and apply after your facial Cleanser. Toners remove excess oil. Neutrogena oil-free toner is Non-comedogenic and hypoallergenic. Removes impurities and dirt.
Facial cleansers: Purity made simple by Philosophy. It gently cleanses without over-drying. It’s lightly hydrating. Removes even waterproof makeup in a breeze. Forget harsher soaps which strip your skin of its natural oils and might cause breakouts or rashes from over-drying.
Moisturizers: Choose light moisturizers. Oil-free. A good choice is Clinique’s Pore Refining Solutions Stay Mate Oil-free moisturizer. It moisturizes while it prevents excess oil.
Oil-free primers: A fast-absorbing, smoothing primer that provides an even canvas for your foundation. Silicone Free foundation Primer by Sephora. Its matifying formula is good for oily, sensitive, and acne-prone skin.
Oil-free make up: Mat Velvet + Matifying Foundation by Makeup Forever. What it is: Full coverage foundation which fights shine and is water-resistant. You can wear it all day and be sure it won’t look waxy or dissolve throughout the day.
Translucent powder:Tarte Smooth Operator™ Amazonian clay finishing powder. Perfects and mattifies for a flawless finish. Amazonian clay reduces dryness and flakiness while it removes surface oil. Improves texture and clarity.
Waterproof mascara: Estée Lauder’s Sumptuous Extreme Waterproof Mascara. It’s great for those summer days you just want to quickly take a dip in the pool without having to forego mascara. It won’t smear off in the water or in high humidity conditions.
